Lucknow Super Giants Face Penalties Following IPL Match

Lucknow: In a gripping match at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow Super Giants' captain Rishabh Pant and young spinner Digvesh Singh were penalized for different violations of the IPL Code of Conduct following their narrow 12-run victory over the Mumbai Indians.

Pant received a fine of Rs 12 lakh due to his team's slow over-rate during Match 16, marking the first infraction of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code. This regulation requires teams to complete their overs within a designated timeframe, and as captain, Pant was held accountable for this oversight.

An IPL statement confirmed, "Rishabh Pant, Captain of Lucknow Super Giants, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match 16 of IPL 2025 against Mumbai Indians at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Friday."

On the other hand, 23-year-old fast bowler Digvesh Singh faced a more significant penalty. He was fined 50% of his match fees for a Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 of the Code of Conduct, which was related to inappropriate language used after taking a wicket. This was his second offence of the season, having already accumulated one demerit point during a previous match against Punjab Kings on April 1, bringing his total to three demerit points.

According to IPL's disciplinary guidelines, Level 1 breaches are managed by the Match Referee, whose decisions are conclusive.

Despite these disciplinary issues, the Lucknow team had reasons to celebrate. Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh both scored half-centuries, providing a solid batting foundation, while the bowlers executed a spirited performance to fend off a late challenge from MI.

In the closing overs, Digvesh Singh, Shardul Thakur, and Avesh Khan each took a wicket, demonstrating composure under pressure to secure LSG's first home victory of the season.
